The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership in Murshidabad has lodged a First Information Report against the chairperson of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), Humayun Kabir, for allegedly threatening to harm a religious community during a rally on Friday (June 26, 2026).

Mr. Kabir, who is also an MLA, sparked controversy with his remarks at a rally in the Rejinagar constituency.

“The FIR was lodged by the BJP’s youth wing and Ram Sita Sewa Mandir. The complaint was based on a viral video from the rally in which Mr. Kabir allegedly called for the mobilising of a particular religious community against another if they cross the line,” said an official from the Behrampur police station.

He issued a stern warning to the Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, demanding an immediate end to the BJP’s political stranglehold in Murshidabad district. He said, “The day I mobilise and take to the field, I will strike back so hard that there won’t be anyone left even to carry their party flag.”

This comes a day after a BJP leader from Malda’s English Bazar lodged another FIR against Mr. Kabir for allegedly inciting religious tension.
