Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Hyderabad Customs seized 2.271 kg of 24-karat gold valued at approximately ₹3.36 crore from two passengers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). The officers intercepted two Indian nationals who had arrived in Hyderabad from Kuala Lumpur. During detailed frisking and examination, officials discovered gold concealed in paste form inside specially stitched pouches wrapped with white cellophane tape. The pouches had been hidden along the waistline of the trousers worn by the passengers in an attempt to evade detection. The two passengers were arrested. The suspected contraband was extracted with the assistance of a goldsmith and subsequently subjected to valuation that confirmed that the seized yellow metal was 24 carat gold.
