SaaS major MoEngage has acquired San Francisco-based AI infrastructure startup Aampe to strengthen its customer engagement stack.
In a statement, MoEngage said Aampe founders Paul Meinshausen, Schaun Wheeler and Sami Abboud will join it to lead its agentic decisioning initiatives.
While MoEngage didn’t disclose the financial details of the transaction, sources told Inc42 that it was an all-cash deal of “tens of millions of dollars”.
Founded in 2020, Aampe provides dedicated, autonomous AI agents for every individual customer of a brand. This allows brands to do personalised messaging and marketing for individual customers based on their behavioural history rather than traditional targeted marketing that focuses on demographics and geographies.
The agents help determine the messaging for each individual customer, the timing and frequency of the messaging and the channels through which it should be done. The agents also learn from every messaging outcome to improve decision making.
Aampe claims to have deployed millions of these individual agents across its customers, and claims to process over 200 Bn decisions a week. The startup is backed by investors such a Peak XV, Z47 and Theory Ventures.
“Every marketer wants to show up at the right moment, with the right message, for every individual user… Aampe has built something the rest of the market hasn’t cracked: a system that continuously optimises content, timing, channel, and frequency together at an individual level,” MoEngage cofounder and CEO Raviteja Dodda said on the acquisition.
The acquisition is in line with MoEngage’s vision of building an agentic customer engagement platform, the work for which began with its Merlin AI agents that aids marketers in building and distributing campaigns. Its custom AI agents also have the capability of owning entire marketing workflows end-to-end rather than assisting with isolated tasks.
Aampe’s existing global customers, including Taxfix, Grab, Zen Business, among others, will move to MoEngage following the acquisition.
Food delivery major Swiggy has also been using both MoEngage and Aampe as part of its marketing stack. MoEngage said that Aampe helps the foodtech company push highly relevant messages to customers by working through thousands of options and tailor-crafting toward their specific preferences.
Founded in 2014 by Dodda and Yashwanth Kumar, MoEngage helps consumer brands amplify and scale customer engagement by understanding their patterns through a 360° view of customer behaviour and communication across different channels through cross-channel marketing.
The startup has raised $487 Mn to date, including a $180 Mn Series F round raised last year. It counts the likes of Titan Capital, Z47, and A91 Capital among its backers.
MoEnage has been preparing for a public market listing. As part of this, it completed its reverse flipping to India recently.
