As part of the State government’s celebrations leading up to International Yoga Day, a yoga session was held at the East Point Golf Club in Mudasarlova on Tuesday (June 16, 2026). Public representatives, senior officials, tourism stakeholders and students took part.

The programme had the twin objective of promoting the benefits of yoga and showcasing Visakhapatnam’s tourism assets. The district administration had earlier held similar events at Rushikonda Beach and in the Naval Dockyard as part of the ongoing Yogandhra initiative.

Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat, District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore, Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari and GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg were among those present, along with officials of the East Point Golf Club, hotel associations and the tourism sector. Yoga instructors and children who presented demonstrations were felicitated with mementoes.

Mr. Kishore said the East Point Golf Club, among the few in Andhra Pradesh, had emerged as one of the country’s prominent golfing destinations, and that holding the event there was meant to highlight its tourism potential. He recalled that last year’s International Yoga Day event, held in the presence of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, drew lakhs of participants and set a Guinness World Record. He urged citizens to join the mass yoga demonstration planned on Beach Road on June 21, saying yoga promoted a healthy lifestyle while showcasing the city’s tourist attractions to a wider audience.

Mr. Sribharat said the East Point Golf Club had developed into one of the country’s best 18-hole courses, with a clubhouse of international standard drawing golfers from across India. Such events helped popularise yoga while strengthening Visakhapatnam’s tourism profile, he said, and urged the media to highlight both.
