
The All India Loco Running Staff Association has expressed shock over the incident reported in Vijayawada Division early on Thursday where the lookout glass of an express train broke in the impact of a food packet thrown on the train.
Train No 12616 New Delhi-Chennai Central Grant Trunk Super Fast Express came to a halt after the Assistant Locopilot who suffered a bleeding injury applied emergency brakes. The incident was reported between Singarayakonda and Ulavapadu railway stations in Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway in the intervening night of June 3 and 4.
According to sources, an unidentified person travelling in Train No 22816 Ernakulam-Bilaspur Superfast Express which came in the opposite direction threw a food packet on the locomotive which broke the lookout glass resulting in a deep cut injury on Assistant Loco Pilot M. Jayaram. Other crew members called in an ambulance to shift the injured person to the nearest hospital.
Investigators recorded the statement of the crew of both the trains. While the Grant Trunk Express was running at 115 kmph the training coming in the opposite direction was cruising at 110 kmph. There was no CCTV footage that could be retrieved from the affected locomotive which had food and blood strewn all around, the sources said.
