Bengaluru’s Sunday Soul Sante recently wrapped up its Colour Play edition at The Bay, Ecoworld, Bengaluru. It featured more than 200 curated stalls, and a music lineup of Madboy Mink and Stringfisher (see our coverage of the earlier editions here).
Its popular gatherings for the creative community this year were held at venues such as Central Garden of Embassy TechVillage and Manyata Business Park. The founding team consists of Asha Rao, Harish Rao, Karan Rao, and Vishal Rao, who have had a run of packed festivals across 16 years,

“At Sunday Soul Sante, discovery is an ongoing and organic process. We scout talent through social media, design communities, referrals, exhibitions, craft clusters, and recommendations from our exhibitors,” Karan Rao tells YourStory.
The curation focuses on originality, craftsmanship, quality, and authenticity. “We aim to create a balanced mix of traditional artisans, contemporary designers, sustainable brands, emerging entrepreneurs, and unique creators with genuinely interesting stories behind their work,” he adds.
Handmade and artisanal work come across as especially valuable in today’s increasingly mass-produced fast-paced world. Handmade work carries emotion, individuality and authenticity.

Consumers are also becoming more conscious about sustainability, ethical production, and supporting small businesses. “Handmade products encourage more thoughtful consumption while helping preserve traditional crafts and cultural heritage,” he says.
“As this market grows, one of the key challenges independent artisans face today is visibility. Many talented makers struggle to reach the right audience, especially in a crowded, mass-produced market where handmade work is often undervalued,” Rao cautions.

Sunday Soul Sante helps create a space where artisans can directly connect with people who appreciate creativity and craftsmanship. “Beyond sales, the Sante offers exposure, real-time customer feedback, storytelling opportunities, collaborations, and a strong sense of community,” Rao says with pride.
For many brands, the Sante has also become a launchpad to grow loyal audiences, expand online, and scale their businesses. Homegrown brands have scaled from small passion projects into widely recognised businesses through the Sante.
“Brands like Alicia Souza, Graphicurry, Purple Turtles, Flatheads, Chumbak, and Chinita are some great examples here. What is most rewarding is seeing creators gain confidence in their craft. The direct interaction with audiences helps artisans refine their products, understand customer preferences, and build loyal communities alongside successful businesses,” Rao explains.

Traditional craftsmanship stays relevant when it evolves with changing lifestyles, aesthetics and modern design sensibilities,” he observes.
“At the same time, we deeply value authenticity and respect for the roots of every craft. The goal is never to dilute tradition, but to keep it alive, accessible and appreciated by newer generations,” he says.
The Sante also offers workshops, live demonstrations and interactive sessions. “We are more than just a shopping event. We create meaningful engagement between makers and audiences, helping people better understand the skill, time and craftsmanship behind handmade work,” Rao adds.

“These experiences build appreciation, spark creativity and curiosity, and encourage more conscious consumption — all of which are central to our mission. There are also dedicated Kids Zones with interactive workshops and activities that encourage hands-on learning,” he says.
Such spaces help families spend quality time together over the weekend. “In this way, we embody the true spirit and celebration of community,” Rao explains.
He credits this focus on consistency, authenticity and experience as key to building the Sunday Soul Sante community. “It was designed as more than just a flea market — it is a cultural and social experience of discovery, enjoyment and inspiration,” he describes.

The Bay at Ecoworld, where the festival was held, reflects Brookfield Properties’ larger focus on curating experiential, community-led destinations that go beyond conventional retail and workplace environments. The cross-sector collaboration transformed Ecoworld into a vibrant social hub for Bengaluru’s audiences.

Many brands and vendors at Sante have grown from small passion projects into nationally-recognised businesses. “That gives us a unique understanding of emerging consumer trends and creative entrepreneurship. Since we have our ear to the ground, we are a valuable platform for brands looking to grow authentically and build real community engagement,” Rao says.
“At the same time, we ensure that independent artisans and creators never compete directly with large brands. The focus is always on meaningful, experience-led collaborations rather than intrusive branding. Authenticity is extremely important to us, and maintaining that trust with our audience is non-negotiable,” he affirms.
The long-term vision for Sunday Soul Sante is to continue evolving as a platform that empowers creativity, entrepreneurship and cultural expression. “Over the last 16 years, we are proud to have helped build value in this space and witness the rise of many like-minded events and creative markets across cities in India,” he observes.
